UW Standardizes Schedule To Better Serve Students

Tennessee Watson

Starting next fall, students at the University of Wyoming should find it easier to sequence classes without conflict and complete their degrees.

UW is rolling out a new block schedule with standardized start times. Kyle Moore, associate provost for enrollment management said, in the past, students struggled to achieve graduation requirements on time because it was hard to schedule courses that didn’t overlap.

“What we have done is we have taken a look at our course schedule and we have assigned a standardized schedule of course offered times,” said Moore.

He said by more equally distributing courses throughout the day and week, UW will be more accessible to students and make it easier to explore courses outside their major.

“We included that a certain percentage of classes had to be after 2 p.m. and a certain percentage had to be offered online,” said Moore. “And those two areas are the two largest for our non-traditional student.”

Moore said clearer scheduling will make it easier for students to manage work, extracurricular activities and family time.

Tennessee -- despite what the name might make you think -- was born and raised in the Northeast. She most recently called Vermont home. For the last 15 years she's been making radio -- as a youth radio educator, documentary producer, and now reporter. Her work has aired on Reveal, The Heart, LatinoUSA, Across Women's Lives from PRI, and American RadioWorks. One of her ongoing creative projects is co-producing Wage/Working (a jukebox-based oral history project about workers and income inequality). When she's not reporting, Tennessee likes to go on exploratory running adventures with her mutt Murray.
